Viper Gecko Care
The Viper Geckos are indigenous to southern Pakistan. This specie is a nocturnal,  ground dwelling gecko and can be found along rocky hillsides.

Viper geckos grow to a length of three to four inches. These little geckos are one of the smallest geckos in the world.

Make sure a shallow water dish is available at all times.

Daytime temperature should be between 85 to 90 deg f and this can be achieved with an under the tank reptile heating pad placed under one end of the tank. Night time temperatures can drop to  70 deg f.

A hiding box should be placed inside the enclosure filled with damp top soil or peat moss. The female Viper geckos will use this dampened area to lay their eggs. Two eggs are laid at a time and eggs should be removed for incubation.

Incubation temperature on the eggs should be approximately 83 deg f. At this temperature you will produce both male and females.

A suitable substrate for Viper geckos which may be used consists of equal parts of store bought top soil and peat moss. These materials are organic and digestible and also help to absorb odor naturally. Water may be added to help mix these components more thoroughly.

Male Viper geckos are highly territorial so only one male should be placed inside the enclosure. You may house up to four females with one male.

The main diet of Viper geckos are crickets and mealworms. As a rule geckos may be fed crickets just slightly smaller than their heads. Hatchling Viper geckos require small prey items. Pinhead crickets are a good food source for hatchling Viper geckos.

All food items should be dusted with a high quality calcium powder such as Rep-Cal w/D3. Twice monthly a high quality reptile vitamin should be used such as Nekton-Rep.

The coloration and pattern of the Viper gecko makes it a unique specie to work with. Their tail is tear drop shaped and wide. Their bodies are black and white and look checked in appearance.

Sexing this specie may be easily done at the age of three months. The males have an obvious swollen tailbase.
